Crytek to leave Germany?
Posted on Friday, 7 August 2009 by Speed, source: PCGames.de
If it's up to the German government, Crytek will see no other possibility than to relocate to other countries.
That's what Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli had to say in an interview with the German PC Games magazine regarding the current proposal in the German parliament to totally ban "Killerspiele" (aka action games)
So some mad kid gets a gun and starts shooting and all the German government can come up with is banning all action games because the shooter supposedly was inspired by a mod that was released ten years ago? Smart thinking!
When has banning something ever resolved anything?
That's what Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli had to say in an interview with the German PC Games magazine regarding the current proposal in the German parliament to totally ban "Killerspiele" (aka action games)
"A ban on action games in Germany is concerning us because it is essentially like banning the German artists that create them. If the German creative community can't effectively participate in one of the most important cultural mediums of our future, we will be forced to relocate to other countries.”
"The current political discussion will deprive German talent of its place on the global game development stage, and deprive German consumers of entertainment that is considered safe and fun around the world."
The entire debate in Germany about banning action games started when a teenager started shooting in a school. Afterwards, the 17 year old shooter was said to have been inspired by Counter-Strike."The current political discussion will deprive German talent of its place on the global game development stage, and deprive German consumers of entertainment that is considered safe and fun around the world."
