Cuts at Flight Simulator studio
What goes up, must come down?
One of the divisions that was hit the hardest is ACES Studio, Microsoft's internal development studio behind the Flight Simulator series. Microsoft has confirmed this studio has been shut down. The future of the game-industry's longest running continuous franchise (1982 till present) has hence become uncertain.
Kalda Rericha, a PR-representative for Microsoft said the cutbacks evolved from an attempt to focus the company's resources on their highest priorities. Furthermore:
We are committed to the Flight Simulator franchise which has proven to be a successful PC based game for the last 27 years. You should expect us to continue to invest in enabling great LIVE experiences on Windows, including flying games, but we have nothing specific to announce at this time.
Things then aren't exactly peachy, but they haven't come to a definitive ending either. How it will go from here for the well known flagship franchise is unknown, a source of consternation for the loyal Flight Simulator fans.That's more than can be said for the other known Microsoft Studios like FASA and Ensemble whom have already been closed.
