DICE New York closes shop

Digital Illusions (aka DICE from Battlefield 2) today announced that they're shutting down the studio in New York.

New York was the homebase of Trauma Studios, the people that created the Desert Combat mod for BF1942. They'll get a new job in Sweden, those that don't want to relocate will get a layoff package.
The Canadian office will remain and focus further on expansion packs.

Digital Illusions will not pay the supplement payment of 200,000 USD as agreed upon at the time of the acquisition of Trauma Studios. The total payment is thereby 300,000 USD. Following the adjustment for the default of payment of the additional supplement payment, the SEK 1.3m remainder of the value of goodwill is written down during the second quarter of 2005. Other costs of liquidation are diminutive.

Not totally unlogic, the Swedish office seems to be becoming even more important for the growth of the company.
