DICE to revolutionize FPS-genre with Mirror's Edge
Posted on Wednesday, 4 July 2007 by Herrdidi, source: GamesIndustry
Developer Digital Illusions, known from the Battlefield franchise, has the ambitious plan to revolutionize the way in which FPS-games are played.
This plan will be put to work in their upcoming title Mirror's Edge (also known as Project Faith), where players will be able to move as if he or she's a real person.
Not a bad idea, but I’m quite curious on how all this will work... And please, let us pray they make the levels load faster than they do in BF!

"At this time, we are not revealing anything more than the fact that we are changing the way that players are able to move in first person," said a representative for DICE.
"No more restrictions, no more being blocked by simple barriers such as walls and fences. We want to enable the player to move like a real person, with the ability to run, jump, vault and slide in a way that has never been seen before in a first-person game."

Anyone remember max payne?
I think the sliding, vaulting and jumping was at its best in that game, though perhaps the slow motion ruined the realism a bit :P

Plowing through walls is fashionable now.
As for the "revolutionary" movements, I see a lot of abuse coming our way. People sliding across entire maps. But maybe if it's done well someone will make a good Dodgeball mod.
