DVD Review: Domino

Posted on Thursday, 22 June 2006 by Speed, source: Fragland
Loosely based on the true story of bounty hunter Domino Harbey, Tony Scott made a movie called Domino. It's got all the ingredients of a fantastic film, but Tony of course managed to screw things up.

I agree that this movie looks like a MTV-video. But just because Tony screwed up this one in the editing-room, does not mean that he "of course managed to screw things up". He has done some great movies before.

His ADD-style is indeed the most irritating aspect of the film, but in general I quite liked it, but nevertheless, Domino is certainly not in the same league as Man on Fire.

But hey, it stars Keira Knightley and imo that's a great reason to go see it :)

Parallax: Domino isn't the first movie to be screwed up by his visual style, the only thing is that with this one, he's gone so over the top that it never reaches its potential while other movies haven't been impacted that much because of it (Spy Game for one)

It's still not a given fact that he will "of course" screw up movies, like the summary above clearly suggest.

the more he uses his MTV-style editing, the more he screws things up. It's a shame that nobody told him to back off with Domino and seeing that his movies tend to get more and more of this kind of editing I'm afraid things will keep getting worse until someone sees the light and keeps him away from the editing room
