DX10 hardware obsolete with DX10.1
Posted on Sunday, 12 August 2007 by Speed, source: TheInquirer
Bad news for all those that have recently bought DirectX10 hardware: The Inquirer is reporting that at Siggraph07, Microsoft announced that with the upcoming Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista, they'll also release DirectX10.1 which will have features that will NOT be supported by current DX10 hardware such as the GeForce 8800GTX
The good news, however, is that the new features won't add much that gamers will care about and as such, game developers will probably not use them
Here's the thing. DX10 hardware - such as the GeForce 8800 or the Radeon 2900 - won't work with the new 10.1 features. The 0.1 revision requires completely new hardware for support, thus royally cheesing off many gamers who paid top whack for their new hardware over the last few months on the basis of future game compatibility.
The good news, however, is that the new features won't add much that gamers will care about and as such, game developers will probably not use them

Vista comes with every new (windows) laptop purchase you clown. But that doesn't prevent you from installing XP after you get it.
Well, you know some retailers sell laptops that have only linux pre-installed, which is free. In that case you can install any OS you want. Personally I foresaw something like this happening, though not this bad.
I well aware that Linux is an option for many Laptop manufacturers thats why I said (windows) laptop purchase. But I agree, the rate at which your required to update your PC and the amount you have to spend to play new games is ridiculous.
