Dell buys Alienware

Posted on Thursday, 23 March 2006 by Roman, source: Gamesindustry
Dell, one of the world’s largest computer manufacterers, has bought Alienware, a firm that specializes in gaming PC’s; and this for an undisclosed amount of money. This rumor had already been out for weeks due to a blogcomment made by the CEO of VoodooPC, a known rival of Alienware but was fiercely denied by both Dell and Alienware.

The takeover has some severe consequences as Dell, or at least some of the company’s affiliates, will be selling PC’s based on the AMD processors. A break with the past since Dell had always been selling Intelbased PC’s. Dell also noted that the acquisition of Alienware will not interfere with the company’s own XPS gaming line-up and that the XPS gaming systems will still be supported.

Buying out the competition? How unsportsmanlike.
