Derek Smart after Freespace

Posted on Friday, 16 July 2004 by Speed, source: Fragland
Over at the Avault boards is word from Derek Smart (Battlecruiser 3000AD) that he's interested in getting the Freespace license from Interplay in order to be able to create Freespace 3
I'm thinking build an ENTIRE ship in 3D from the inside and out. Then merge it all with a great action focused (with mouse flight controls!!!) campaign that would be true to the franchise. Maybe a few planetary missions (well, I have the tech, why the hell not?) missions to move the campaign story along.

Man, the genre could sure do with a pure kick-ass space sim shooter right about now and with a brand
name we can all relate to. *sigh*
Might become very interesting to follow up on...

Looking at the crap Derek Smart produced lately, I wouldn't hold your breath...

Universal Combat seems to have been not too bad.

Hmm, played the demo of his last game (UC idd) and let me tell you: if he can make a worthy Freespace 3 then I will win this saturday's national lottery. Freespace 3 needs a bigger team and bigger budget imo.

I played Universal Combat and it was one hell of a shitty game. Community fori on the net were full of buyers complaining about things on the box not being in the game. Instead the game was filled with bugs. Imagine a whole universe with almost nothing in it. Ohh the thrills of flying light years through space without encountering a single bit of interest.
