Details about Stargate Worlds
GameSpot had a little talk with front man Joe Ybarra of Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment and succeeded in gathering some new information about Stargate Worlds.
The game went in production not long ago, but has been in pre-production for a couple of years already. The team behind the game has access to almost every decor and piece of clothing of the series SG-1 and Atlantis, a spin-off that started three years ago. The game will be situated between season 3 and 8 of the original tv series, so with the goa'uld in charge.
Ybarra and his team hopes to include as much planets as possible in the game, "until we have no time left". As it happens, the game will consist of three big parts: explore, squad-based fighting and 'replayability'. Two features actually. ;)
Although the game will also try to appeal to 'normal' tv fans, the emphasis will be on gamers. Besides that, different game styles will be supported. For example, it will be possible to travel around the galaxy as a scientist.
The game is expected in 2008, but perhaps they'll release a beta at the end of this year.

In addition to the TV shows, the designer also pointed out that two direct-to-video motion pictures are also in production, and that "new content can be integrated both ways," both from the show into the game, and vice versa.

Players will be able to hit the "level cap" (the game's maximum character level) relatively quickly and instead of focusing on creating characters that are more powerful, players will instead be free to explore and to participate in the game's player-versus-player (PVP) battle system, though Ybarra put forward the idea that the game's population will likely end up split between about 10 percent of hard-core fans in PVP, and the other 90 percent exploring the world and taking on quests.

Finally, Ybarra suggested that although both TV shows' acting talent are interested in appearing in the game in some capacity, exactly how "hasn't been figured out yet."
