Yesterday, 3D Realms released the source code to their classic title Shadow Warrior. In this shoot-em-up from 1997, you are put in the shoes of Lo Wang: a bald, wicked ninja who spits Confucius quotes while slaughtering the enemy, armed with an impressive arsenal of sushi knives and modern warfare.

The game uses the Build engine, famous of Duke Nukem 3D, and the source code has all the files needed to the tune the game to your wishes. Unfortunately the game is no longer supported, but a new forum has been opened to discuss development.

There is a limit to the freedom, though. The code has been released under a restrictive GPL license. The copyright remains with 3D Realms and you are not allowed to redistribute mods without permission.
