DirectX10 not only for Vista anymore?

Posted on Tuesday, 24 April 2007 by Speed, source: The Inquirer
If you thought you needed Windows Vista in order to run DirectX10 (and games like Crysis), it seems you may very well be wrong. At least, that's what The Inquirer is reporting.

They're reporting that a guy called Cody Brocious apparently has managed to hack DirectX10 and create a wrapper that allows the system to be used on other platforms other than Windows Vista

A year in, the Alky Project has gone live under the cover of a company Falling Leaf Systems. Members of its Sapling Program will be able to get the wrappers for DirectX10 applications and run them not just on DX10 hardware under Windows XP, but with some DX9 hardware as well.

Although this sounds like a fairytale, Cody claims he reverse-engineered the Geometry Shader code, and that users will be able to run Windows games intended on the Mac OS X on x86-based Macinteltoshes as well as Linux

If this is indeed true, it's good news for us, gamers, and probably news Microsoft doesn't like to hear :)

XP could be upgraded to support DX10 if M$ wanted to but M$' interest is in selling as many copies of Vista as possible...so I would expect M$ to fight this fiercely + it's very 3rd party software...but what's life without a little risk taking?!?
And it's Vista that has DX9.0L so that you can run DX9 games in Vista on top of the DX10 support. XP will only support DX9 hence the article...

At best he can hope to be able to emulate DX10 but that will result in a [b]major[/b9 performance hit...thing is DX10 is integrated into the Vista kernel...sorry, but I don't think this will work and even if it does performance will be so poor it won't be worth it!

Is it sh!t. DX10 is about as integrated in the Vista Kernel as Explorer is in Windows 3.11.

Theere's kids out there running DX10 on Linux WITH HW/ACC - So it's just a matter of time before this'll work for 100%..

No Vista for me for a loooooong time..

I assume you are talking about the Alky Project?
This is not up and running yet and they "plan" to bring it to xp and linux(good luck to them, they will need it).It is no way near ready and working!
If you think it is working then please tell us which DX10 games are running on linux atm !
Whats that? none? Thought so.
