Director dreams of Guitar Hero movie
Director Brett Ratner (known from Rush Hour and X-men 3) told MTV that he would like to make a movie based on Guitar Hero.
He even has a plot:

“It could be about a kid from a small town who dreams of being a rock star and he wins the ‘Guitar Hero’ competition. One of these dreams-[come-true] kind of concepts.”
Activision still needs to be convinced and up until now that does not seem to be the case. For now Ratner will have to make do with a God of War movie. All he would say about that is that he's working on it.In other news:
