Don't steal an apple from Creative
Posted on Thursday, 8 December 2005 by Devilke, source: BBC Online - Fraglan
There are troubles in technology-paradise. For quite some time, Creative Labs, among gamers especially known for their qualitative technological products like the Soundblaster soundcard, speakers and mouses, also knows success with their MP3 players.
More strongly even, before the release of the Apple iPod, Creative was the worldwide marketleader concerning portable musicplayers that could contain lots of mp3's.
A year and a half ago, the cards changed when iPod started an enormous growth. At this moment, Apple even has a marketshare of an estimated 80% in the area of MP3 players.
Despite the fact that MP3 players still sell very well, not everything is going great for both companies because Creative stated from the beginning that Apple copied their intuitive and user-friendly service system! A few months ago, we already reported that Creative had won a courtcase about the patent on their control system.
A direct consequence is that Creative wants to sit around the table with Apple. If necessary, in a courtroom. That is communicated on the website of BBC World. They had a conversation with the president of Creative, mister Sim Wong Hoo.
"We will pursue all manufacturers that use the same navigation system," said Mr Sim. "This is something we will pursue aggressively.
"Hopefully this will be friendly, but people have to respect intellectual property."
