Riot Games yesterday evening announced League of Legends, a PC multiplayer game that is based upon the well known Warcraft III mod Defense of the Ancients, also known as DotA.
In the game you take control of a persistent avatar, called a Summoner, that can level up across matches. The basics of the game will stay true to the principles of DotA.

All DotA adepts (I know there are still many) should be very happy with this game because Riot Games was co-founded by DotA Allstars co-creator Guinsoo. Many of the employees of the developer-slash-publisher are also DotA veterans.

Get ready to micromanage those Summoners and armies early 2009. If you get lucky, you might get into the beta that is planned just before the actual release.
