Duke Forever to appear at E3... next year

Posted on Friday, 29 April 2005 by Speed, source: CVG
The game that has been in development since... forever, and has become a laughing stock for a lot of people, Duke Nukem Forever, apparantly will be shown at E3 again. The catch is that it won't be this E3 but the one that's going to be held next year.

US journos have been privy to a sneak peek of 3D Realms' eagerly awaited FPS. Although they didn't get to actually play it they did see around 20 minutes of footage, and received a promise that more was to come in 2006

More to come in 2006, perhaps (3DRealms has promised a lot, but haven't kept much of it). As for E3 next year, George Broussard hasn't confirmed it yet, so it's just speculations and rumours. A similar article can be found here: www.computerandvideogames.com/r/?page=http://www.computerandvideogames.com/news/news_story.php(que)id=117797

Also, I remember George saying a while back that they didn't like E3, which don't add up to this either. The fact that they're now supposedly using the Unreal 3 Engine is also more speculation from the press. Last time George said anything about DNF's engine, he said that they were using the Unreal Engine (currently 2x) with their own renderer on top of it - and god knows what else they have added to it.

Hmm, that UE3 engine story of CVG is indeed way too speculative. The Unreal Technology is also still there for the Unreal and Unreal 2.0 engine.

As for Duke's (possible) presence at next years E3... I only need an equally asskicking trailer as in 2001. Blew my mind away back then.

Ryuken, I agree, that trailer was really cool (and so was the one in 1996 (or was it '98?)).

It isn't, they've probably lost billions. But because of all the addons for the original game and all the other games, like the max payne games, they have the ability to continue developing it.

The thing I hate about 3DRealms it their PR management. They don't know how to communicate with their fanbase, and they certainly don't know anything about release dates (8 years in development and still "when it's done", anyone?).

If you read through their forums then I think the 'communication' is still great. George and Joe3D there post often. Who can blame them for not giving updates/info/screens every time? There are such factors as competition between them and other shooters and the fact that almost every other developer does it. Worst PR management? I think that Valve clearly qualifies itself here. The terrible 'HL2 multiplayer will be in'-part alone would justify that, not even right before release/the first reviews did one know what to expect from HL2 in that area.
