Duke to have better tech than HL2 ?
Posted on Thursday, 10 March 2005 by Speed, source: Gamesindustry.biz
Gamesindustry.biz have seen a demonstration at GDC by Swedish company Meqon who will be responsible for the physics of Duke Nukem Forever and things seem quite impressive.
The new technology apparantly makes it possible not only to have objects breaking completely random but even clothing that can be torn and such.
This may well make interest in Duke Nukem Forever increase again as this kind of technology hasn't been seen in any game yet, but on the other hand, by the time Duke Nukem Forever gets released, we'll probably have played Doom 10 and Half-Life 5 already...
The demonstration goes far beyond the rigid-body physics which has impressed so many players in games like Half-Life 2, and according to Meqon CTO Dennis Gustafsson, every effect is entirely real-time - with even the smashing of fragile objects being generated on the fly, rather than happening along "fault lines" inserted by artists.
