Duke's Development History

Posted on Monday, 30 August 2004 by Speed, source: Fragland
Over at the 3D Realms Forums is a nice and interesting post that lays out the entire development timeline of Duke Nukem Forever up to now. Quite interesting and hilarious if you ask me :)
Janurary 1997: Work on DNF started.*

April 1997: Quake 2 engine purchase announced. (they got it in mid-late 1997 before Quake 2 was released). Scott Miller states that he is confident that DNF will be released by mid 1998 and prey in late 1998 making 1998 a bit year for 3DR. He also mentions that his confidence is not misplaced.
The whole timeline clearly shows how 3D Realms has been rewriting history on their own development all the time. By now, we're 2004 and Duke Nukem Forever has been in development almost 8 years and we haven't seen anything yet... This must be by far the longest game in development ever.

If its still based on the Q2 engine, maybe they should not release it yet. ;)

Apparently you didn't read the timeline. They are currently using the Unreal engine.
