Unlike EVE Online, CCP games' Dust 514 will not require a subscription to play. Instead, the developers will be using a micro-payments system in order to keep the MMOFPS running.

CCP games showed their upcoming console MMO shooter for the very first time to the public at the Fanfest convention in Reykjavik, Iceland, today where the news was broken that subscriptions wouldn't be necessary.

In other related news, it was also confirmed that at least 64 players would be able to do battle together at the same time but no official cap has been set yet. Further on, CCP also stated that Dust 514 will be linked with EVE Online
DUST players act as mercenaries in the pay of EVE Online's space pilots, fighting for control of planets - although they'll also be able to fight for NPCs in a faction warfare system. They'll be able to communicate with EVE players in-game or via the New Eden social network, and join the same Corporations and Alliances.

Advancement will be through the accumulation of wealth, and an "achievement matrix" that unlocks new customisable weapons and vehicles. There will be no character classes, players' abilities being defined by their equipment.

Yay! Can't wait for this, ccp do a fantastic job with eve online.
Other MMO's need to take notice, "Free to play", microtransactions are the way to go.
