E3 Booths: LucasArts
Posted on Thursday, 19 May 2005 by Speed, source: Fragland.net
LucasArts has a booth that's not open for the general public and their lineup is rather limited this year.
Still, there's two titles that really look interesting.
Star Wars: Empire at War
This RTS looks very promising. There are over 40 planets that can be conquered and each planet that you take over can be completely fitted for your own needs.
If you don't like the fact that the Rebels take over your planet again, you can send in the Death Star and just blow the whole damn thing up !
If you think that's the coolest you've ever heard, think again. The greatest feature (and something I've never seen in an RTS) is the battlecam. If you're winning a battle, you can switch on the cam and just check out the fight like if you were watching a movie. Really awesome !
Multiplayer will also be available but despite me nagging, the devs didn't want to disclose anything.
Star Wars: Battlefront 2
Ok, as you all probably already know, Battlefront 2 doesn't really improve on the original when it comes to graphics. To be honest, I wasn't really impressed with how the game looked.
The most important new stuff in Battlefront 2 is the ability to unlock Jedi knights and play with them. After fulfulling a certain amount of objectives, a Jedi (Obi Wan, Darth Vader, ...) will become available and you'll be able to use them. Each Jedi has his own special abilities and the time you're capable of using such a character depends on your actions. If, for instance, you're playing with Darth Vader and you start doing good things like destroying his troops, your Vader-time will diminish more quickly. Complete Vader's objectives however and you'll be able to enjoy his fighting style longer.
Also new are vehicles and characters from Episode 3 and also the storyline somewhat follows the third movie's plot (with some liberties taken).
Nice thing are again the cut-scenes that show actual movie footage. Although the game overall didn't really impress me, I think it has enough going for it to sell reasonably well.
