EA: PS3 development more difficult than X360

Posted on Friday, 1 February 2008 by Speed, source: CVG
After Rockstar, now also EA states that PS3 development is still more "challenging".

EA's CEO, John Riccitiello, stated that although a game like Burnout Paradise managed to get released on both X360 and PS3 at the same time, development for the PS3 is still more of a challenge when not starting development from that platform.

In circumstances where we either led with the Xbox 360 or ran parallel production, for the most part, we're still experiencing some delay on the PS3. It's a little bit more of a challenging development environment for us.

"It's probably only a third of a problem for us as it was [nine months ago]. But there still remains some catching up to do on the engineering side for the PS3."

While I have high hopes for the PlayStation 3 and the XBOX 360, does this really count as news? PS3, harder to develop for, yeah, it's not the first time a console was a pain to make things work great as a third party developer, I mean look at the SEGA Saturn and Nintendo 64. Then compare SEGA's 1995 Daytona USA with EA's 1996 Need For Speed, it was like night and day, and as for the Nintendo 64, just play Capcom's Resident Evil 2, a game that back in 1996 (at N64 launch) would have been impossible to do unless it was on CD-ROM.
