EA: Wii hadn't expected it!

Posted on Friday, 27 July 2007 by Speed, source: Next-Gen
Next-Gen has word that EA's CEO John Riccitiello said at EA’s investor meeting that they had totally underestimated the success of Nintendo's Wii

He added, “[The last transition] was tough because we typically have two to three platforms and a five year period… One of the biggest challenges, of course, was that not a lot of people anticipated the success of Nintendo that they’ve shown with their wand controller and their Wii.

“That got ahead of us a little more than our expectations.”

Well John, I suggest you follow the gaming press a bit closer as just about every gaming site in the world (except for the occasional MS or Sony fanboy site of course) was saying that the Wii was awesome.

I played the Wii at some press events, so I was kinda' excited about it. I thought tennis (Wii Sports) was good, but there wasn't much else. Zelda ofcourse, and maybe two other titles, but nothing big. I still believe nobody could have predicted how well the Wii was going to sell, even with only a few good games on the market. And EA not publishing original content (not-ports) on the system didn't help of course. Except for SSX Blur, i soo digged that game :>

A lot of ppl that would never dream of buying an Xbox or PlayStation have bought the Wii, couples in their 50s and 60s where the kids have moved out...how many could have foreseen that?

Anyways, there's room both for the Wii and an "ordinary" console where main focus is on graphics...
