EA can't make Fifa 09 run on PC with same console features

EA has explained why the PC version of Fifa 09 is "different" from the Xbox360 and PS3 versions, apparently they can't scale their engine properly as many other companies do with their multiplatform titles.

EA's community manager Phenom does his story on the UK boards:

The PC version of FIFA 09 is different to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions because of the CPU processing power required for the architecture of the game.

The majority of gamer's PC's do not have enough CPU processing power for this architecture, so FIFA09 on PC has been built to have the best possible graphics and gameplay engine while still being accessible to as many fans of the game as possible. If the architecture was identical to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, FIFA09 on PC would only be accessible to 1-3% of the PC systems on the market.

Having said that, FIFA09 on PC delivers a very deep gameplay engine, along with leading-edge visuals.
There are a lot of PC systems on the market (infinitely more than next-gen consoles) but not all of them are meant to run games of course nor do we think there's a lot more than 1-3 percent of them anyway that are able to meet the Fifa 09 PC minimum system requirements. What a non-argument from EA.

Most people dont have 2.4ghz cpu, average is probably 1.6-2.2.

Though 1-3 percent is probably over exaggerated

2.4ghz P4 cpu's came 6 years ago. Most minimum requirements are 3ghz on most games which isn't much really. A 3.8ghz p4 is basically equivalent to a 1.06ghz core 2 duo mobile on benchmarks. Most desktop pcs that cost £50-£150 can max this game out. Laptops that cost £200-£400 can also max it out. At least 75% of people who are PC gamers will be able to max out the next gen version as a 3 year old PC would be able to.
