EA does Valve

With Valve and Vivendi parting ways, the Half-Life 2 developers saw themselves without a publisher. So, who do you go to when you're one of the best development studios in the world and are looking for a publishing partner? No, not Activision who are well-known for housing some of the best FPS devs in the world, you go to Electronic Arts. At least, that's what Valve has done according to a press release at Yahoo

Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS - News), the world's leading interactive entertainment company and Valve®, the award-winning studio behind the blockbuster franchises Half-Life® and Counter-Strike(TM), today announced that the two companies have entered a multi-year agreement to deliver a collection of Valve games to players worldwide. The first two games to be released under this agreement are Half-Life 2: Game of the Year and Counter-Strike: Source(TM) for PC, both launching this fall. In addition, Half-Life 2 for the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft, currently in development at Valve and targeted for release in October, will be published and distributed worldwide by EA.

Really I dont see the problem with it... I hate EA as much as the next guy, but its just the publisher not the designer of the next game Valve makes. All EA is doing is paying for the project and distributing product for Valve for a cut of the profits. Who better to do this but the EA cash cow.

This is not like the buyout of my favorite company Bungie by the rolling death machine M$. Bungie sold out for halo.

I disliked Vivendi even more than I dislike EA...

So, even though it's an improvement, it's just a very slight improvement.

EA is only acting as the PUBLISHER.
EA merely pay for manufacturing costs etc with promise of % of profits recieved after launches.
EA will not be secretly molesting Valve behind our backs, so fear not, this will not change Valve.
