EA focusing on new IP

Posted on Friday, 1 December 2006 by Speed, source: Gamesindustry.biz
Speaking with Gamesindustry.biz, Electronic Arts' Glenn Entis, VP and chief visual officer, stated that the company is changing focus from sequels to new intellectual property

One thing we've realised as a company is that those game developers are happier, more inspired, and seem to be drawing in more talent when we're doing the exciting, creative work. It's simple - people want to be proud of the work they do.

We've always strived to make the best titles, but now as we're changing we also want to have great new properties and really pick up the pace. Also as a business, we really believe that real future is creating new properties and building them up over time

At least it's a good thing that they want to make more truly new games. Now let's hope they up the overall quality and release games with less bugs

What the are saying is that they will develop new idea and make a IX part sequel out of it. They care about $, nothing else, all this talk is cheap propaganda to raise their crappy image in the public. They will continue milking their golden cows just as they did before this stupid statement.

Wait a minute, "creating new properties", "building them up over time" sounds a lot like what they are doing now except for creating its buying new properties and then destroying the franchise with lousy sequels!!
