EA goes digital with Origin!

Electronic Arts wants to take on Steam, XBox Live and PSN?
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the publisher is working on setting up an online platform for digital distribution, called Origin.
The platform will launch initially for PC and Mac with a client program that will allow game purchase and offer social features which will presumable be similar to or include EA's current online identity system to sport leaderboards, status messages, and more.
At launch the service will not be for consoles, but this may be added at a later stage. One of the first games to fully support Origin will be Bioware's MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, which will be sold through retail (boxed copies) and Origin, but not on any other digital platform like Steam.
More information including a full list of features and formal announcement is expected at E3 next week.
