EA reveals LotR roleplaying game The White Council
Electronic Arts has announced The Lord of the Rings: The White Council, an RPG for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The game features a separate storyline from that of the film trilogy (which EA still has the exclusive license to) and should be pretty open-ended overall.

One might expect that this is just a renamed Project Gray Company, which has been announced earlier this year and which shares that typical LotR-look. The official White Council site isn't working but the Project Gray Company website is.
A release is set for the end of 2007. Hopefully EA will do better with this effort than their last true singleplayer RPG (the Ultima IX disaster).

Players have the freedom to explore the open world of Tolkien's Middle-earth in The Lord of the Rings, The White Council. Players can choose their role as a man, an elf, a dwarf, or a hobbit. Each role's destiny is to become a hero allied with the White Council, whose members include the famed characters Gandalf, Saruman, Galadriel, and Elrond.
A combination of stunning graphics and expansive environments, along with the freedom of movement demonstrates the innovation and quality of the next-generation RPG, where players can create their own adventures.
