EA takes 15 trillion gold

The virtual world has lost a lot of money. EA has taken no less than 15 trillion gold and closed the corresponding 180 accounts in Ultima Online. The reason? The money was 'earned' by taking advantage of exploits in the game.

The world of Ultima Online just got a little poorer. Electronic Arts has announced the permanent removal of roughly 15 trillion gold from the game's economy and the termination of more than 180 user accounts in connection with the funds, which it referred to as "dirty money."

Normally, a million gold is sold on e-bay for about three to four real dollars. If you make a little calculation, you will learn that the 'cheaters' earned about 15 to 60 million dollars!

If you have to pay real money that you earned on your McDonalds salary for in-game currency, you've got to be one sad fuck with no girlfriend and no life, with zero chances of ever getting laid.

Its very sad, but its a big business in almost every MMO. Also, its usually not the people working overtime at McDonalds who buy gold, its the 13 year old with daddies credit card.
