EA's latest FPS is Spyware 2142?

Posted on Tuesday, 17 October 2006 by Speed, source: Shacknews
Over at Shacknews is word that inside the box of Battlefield 2142 is a slip of paper that states the following:

slip of paper says, essentially, that 2142 includes monitoring software which runs while your computer is online, and records "anonymous" information like your IP address, surfing habits (probably via cookie scans), and other "computing habits" in order to report this information back to ad companies and ad servers, which generates in-game ads.

I would think there are laws against Spyware, but I'm sure EA has made their "License Agreement" water tight so they can get away with it.

How can an IP adress be anonymous?!?

It's a mentallity and attitude that wouldn't be tolerated by autorities in the real world so why should it be tolerated in the virtual?

realy nice how they discribe "everything else you might do on your PC" by "computing habits". Very nice EA. I'm sure a couple of managers had a very large bonus and perhaps even a bumb up in the ladder. Ut would be nice if everyone would just ignore the game. Make EA suffer for torturing their loyal fans. And the sad thing is that most people who buy the crap won't mind it.

Why would anybody buy 2142 anyway? It got boring after 10 minutes.
