EVE Online interview

Posted on Thursday, 27 February 2003 by t20, source: Fragland
IGN had an interesting interview with Reynir Hardarson, Lead Designer and Art Director at CCPgames. This is a must-read.
IGNPC: EVE is obviously chock full of information on a universal scale. What are some of the ways you have to facilitate information gathering and retrieval for players?

Reynir Hardarson: EVE revolves alot around information. Knowing where the best prices are, what the security status is in the vicinity, where the bad guys hang out, how the traffic is on the stargates, where the corporations have stations and headquarters, what the best ore is, how difficult is it to kill a Guritas Enforcer, etc. There is information about everything everywhere and we give the players several tools to gather that info. In the market, you can see prices and availability of items on the station, the system, constellation or the whole region you are in displayed on a map. There is a built in HTML browser in the game where you are able to view the world atlas, equipment database, read the encyclopedia, get information about the corporations and factions in the games, etc. You also have a massive 3D map of the world where you can get information about all the systems as well as data on security, traffic, active systems, conflict zones etc.
