European PS3 to cost €627,00
Sony UK's general manager told in an interview with Eurogamer TV that the full version PS3 will cost 425 pounds in the UK. When doing some math, that comes down to €627,00 which is over 150 euros more than you'll have to pay for the console in the United States. On top of that, UK retailers have stated that the cheaper version will not be sold in stores.
Again the explanation is still the same: you get a Blu-Ray player for that money. Little to counter that point of course and for people who are thinking about buying such a device it's excellent news. Quite ironic however, that Sony brings this message and additionaly replies to the question on why there's no HDMI (the new standard interface for HD TV's) that no-one actually has a TV that uses this option!
There's no explanation for the huge price difference with our friends overseas. Not that we Europeans aren't used to that; just think of the Xbox360 and the PSP.
On top of that it's all but certain who will win the war for the high-definition media carrier; Blue-Ray or HD-DVD, it all still needs to be seen. According to several sources, Microsoft replied that their Xbox360 + HD-DVD add-on will be cheaper by Christmas than the PS3 and you still have the choice not to buy the HD-DVD drive.
Christmas holidays this year will be very exciting and probably also VERY expensive...
"But you think about the price, think about the price of just a Blu-Ray player. It will be cheaper than a Blu-Ray player just by itself. So fundamentally we're going to be great value just from that point of view without even looking at the games side."
