FS2004: A century of Flight shots

Posted on Sunday, 25 May 2003 by t20, source: Fragland
Microsofts' Flightsim-saga through the years has certainly built it's reputation as number-one flight sim on the market.
After 20 years of its first release, Microsoft is almost ready to unleach A century of Flight upon us (PC: 25 July 2003) upon us, which will be the most up to date version ever, with more airplanes and helicopters and most of all: the spirit of St. Louis is to be flyable ingame. Check out some 40 new screenshots in our galleries.

OK i am a heavy flight sim player. i dont own any flight sims right now. i have sold all that i have bought. i am still waiting for a flight sim i can actually play and feel like I am in an airplane. after all halflife and doom seem to think graphics matter and I cant wait to get my hands on them, but i look at this flight sim from microsoft and i think, well the flight engine looks the same. the gound looks fake. the planes look like they are done right but who would want to play a game where the plane looks real but the world you are flying in looks like a cartoon? this is my opinion so please understand. i know it looks ok, but not real. i want a real flight sim world and everything. not just the planes. i am still going to have to wait awhile....hey!! maybe ID software will do a flight sim???? mmmmmmmmmm????

you can fly over the entire world with flight simulator, right? (correct me if I'm wrong). Do you have any idea how much space high-resolution textures of the ENTIRE world would take? they're gonna have to invent a new storage medium just to be able to put it on a reasonably low number of cd/dvd/whatever's.

I think they're taking the right approach: the textures look good enough when you're in flight, they're only blurry when you take off/land (because you're so close to them).

If they have high-resolution textures in flight simulator 2010, I'd be surprised :)

HEHE i understand that, and thats exactly what i ment. I will have to wait awhile......for a real flight expieriance. but i would rather fly around a few states or even the united states in a simulater that actually made me feel like i was in a real world. rather than a flat world that dont look so real anyway was just my opinion i am impressed as to what they have done. but i never stay with the game very long becouse it just feels like a game...know what i mean? i mean when i get to play doom3. i think i will jump outta my chair! now would i or did i ever jump outta my chair playing doom 1 or 2? i dont think so ,but i did play the shit outta them and had some fun. i just want that same thing playing a flight sim. thank you. realizm!! hehe
