FTC interested in Take2 takeover by EA
Electronic Arts has sent out a press release stating that the Federal Trace Commission has sent out a second request for information concerning EA's plans to take over Take2.
While EA believes that its proposed transaction with Take-Two would not be anti-competitive, the FTC has not yet reached any conclusions regarding the proposed acquisition and has indicated that it needs further information and additional time to conduct its review.
Meanwhile, at Take2's annual shareholder meeting, CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that he's confident that Take2 is worth more than the $26 per share that EA is offering."It just doesn't stack up," said Zelnick of EA's offer. "The synergies alone to a strategic partner -- the synergies themselves -- could be worth anywhere from $6 to $29 per share."
Zelnick also stated that a takeover at $26 a share would be highly interesting for EA as it wouldn't only give them access to some of the biggest games in the industry (Grand Theft Auto f.i.) but would immediately make them get rid of some nifty competition in the sports genre.
