Fable 3: first reviews are in

Posted on Tuesday, 26 October 2010 by Speed, source: CVG
Although the game hasn't officially been released yet, Microsoft has lifted the NDA on reviews for Lionhead Studios' Fable 3.

Here's an overview of the first review scores:
  • CVG: 9.2/10
  • SixthAxis: 10/10
  • GameInformer: 9/10
  • IGN: 8.5/10
  • GiantBomb: 3.5/5
  • Destructoid: 5.5/10
  • So most reviews are clearly positive bit Destructoid has a completely different view. And that's the following:
Fable III isn't a bad game; it's just very disappointing. Lacking the sense of adventure of the previous games and making the most simple of elements more awkward and overdrawn, it feels like a step back for the franchise. It's a shame, because its narrative goals are truly outstanding and there's still a lot of simplistic role-playing fun to be had. These positives are outweighed, however, by a downsized sense of scale, cumbersome attempts at innovation, and a total neglect when it comes to fixing some important problems.

Not only has Fable once again failed to live up to its promise, it's gotten further away from it than before, and that's an incredibly frustrating shame.

Judging a game on one persons poor review is short sighted and narrow minded. Dont be a sheep. Make up your own minds.

I have played about 8 hours of it and I thought it was fantastic. Sure somethings aren't perfect, but it's still a lot of fun!

Lionhead games never live up to their hype, thanks to all the one-liners Peter Molyneux throws out to the gamespress. Still they are nice game, but not the groundbreaking ones as Molyneux tells us.

I would imagine it would be a whole lot better if they had blue ray to use on the 360.

Fable 3 is a let down. Clunky graphics, lazy design and simplistic gameplay that is surely aimed at children. I loved the first game but all the things which made it great have been dumbed down far to much. This is aimed at gamers who like easy, hand holding adventures with no requirement for any real skill or thought. I was really hoping this would rectify the mess of fable 2 but unfortunately it has compounded the mistakes. This is not a role playing game. It is a childishly simple wander about with some moral decision choices . If you want a game for your kids then fine but if you are in search of a challenging role player don't bother.

Very odd that the article writer has only decided to quote a whole piece of the one negative review and nothing on any other review which were all posotive, something don't smell right.

Fable 3 is a great game by the way.

Maybe because the negative review is the one that seems out of place... and to point it out would start a discussion?

    Someone with a brain! :)
Quoting different sites that say the same is boring and doesn't really add much. If there's a respectable site that has a totally different opinion, then that's interesting.
