Family blames CoD for ex-Marine's disappearance

Posted on Wednesday, 13 February 2008 by Speed, source: Herald Tribune
The Herald Tribune is reporting that after playing Call of Duty, a former Marine stood up and left his house to vanish.

Of course, the family is blaming a videogame for this, and more in detail it's Call of Duty that is to blame as it might have triggered some "unpleasant war memories"...

Birge said that before Hall went missing he also played the video game "Call of Duty." The family said the game may have triggered some unpleasant war memories. Hall's best friend was killed in the same battle in which Hall's leg was injured. He was nearby when the friend was decapitated.

"He just got up and said he had to go," Courtney Birge said about the day Hall disappeared. "He's a son, a grandson, a cousin and a brother. We are not going to stop until we get him home."
Although it's a sad story, I wonder why people always have to drag videogames into the matter. Why can't they just accept that people do things for their own reasons and don't have to be "influenced" by something?

Or maybe a bastard who sent him to some pointless war is to be blamed?

I don't see were it says the family "blames" the game for his disappearance, it just says it "may have" which it certainly could.

Ultimately though it was the soldier who chose to play the game, just a shame he seems to have had a bad reaction to it.

Maybe he's going to find Bush and give him a kick in the backside.

I blame the History Channel. Showing all those war-related series clearly are what caused this -- clearly.

But in all honesty, I think he's gone completely John Rambo and is out hunting kids who annoyed him over voicechat. Lets face it, most of us have come pretty close to wanting to do the same...

Or maybe, someone who recently had a terrible experience in a war, should not be playing a video game involving modern warfare and a similar terrain.
