Father beats up his son for his PlayStation

If this story is correct (I haven't found confirmation yet), a 51 year old man is charged with beating his son. Apparently, the man was thirsty and wanted a couple of cold beers. Unfortunately, he was out of money. No money no beer.
But his kid had a PlayStation and there was a pawnshop nearby... can you guess the rest of the story ?
Aaaaah, why do these funny things only happen in the USA or Korea :)

A West Haven man was arrested on charges of beating his son when the boy refused to turn over a video game system so it could be pawned for beer money.
"We certainly don't like to hear about parents beating their child in order to get a beer," West Haven Police Sgt. Paul Raucci said.
But the story gets even better... while daddy was beating up his kid, mommy quicky took the console and got daddy his beer."We certainly don't like to hear about parents beating their child in order to get a beer," West Haven Police Sgt. Paul Raucci said.
