First hands-on with the PS3

Kikizo has trown online a beautiful article in which they took a look at the PS3 and at the same time did some tests on it. Of course, this all needs to be confirmed, but nevertheless there are some fun things in the article. Moreover, three different developers allowed them to hold the controller of the as good as definite hardware.

First the box itself:

"I think to fit everything that Sony wants in there AND leave space for a 2.5 inch hard drive," explains one senior developer working on a final kit, who will be our guide for much of this report, "the machine would have to grow. The models they're showing off are way too small for what they want."

The controllers used are the old ones, because there would be little difference with the new ones. The games are also developed on the hard disk. The goal is to make it work fluently on a 10x DVD player because otherwise the loading times would be too long.

It also looks like the difference with the Xbox360 will be smaller than the difference between the original Xbox and PS2:

Games oughtta be more immersive thanks to the PS3's supposed ability to handle "more stuff simultaneously" as "a machine barely superior to Xbox 360." For this small system gap to widen, "...Sony will have to make available to [devs] libraries and new routines... something they've been severely lacking at so far."

This has a reflect on the games. At the launch, they should fall in the same class as those for the Xbox 360:

For reference, "current playable content" looks more like Fifth Phantom Saga than Killzone or Motorstorm, but MGS4-quality graphics are looking more and more possible (which is probably a good thing), while launch titles may resemble "nice Xbox 360 material" like Dead or Alive 4 and Gears of War.

For now, there isn't said anything about the price, the release date and the recently announced 'Playstation Network'. When will Sony tell us? We'll hope soon.

It looks like both consoles will have to fight on original content and extra possibilities besides gaming. Of course the easiest (and best) solutions is to just buy both. If you have saved enough money that is... Yes yes, exiting times!
