First scores for Brink arrive, all over the place

The first review scores for SplashDamage's team-based FPS, Brink, are pouring in and the scores are all over the place.

The game launches today in the US and later this week in Europe. Two of our colleagues refused to put up a review as this is a multiplayer game and you can only test such a title thoroughly when the servers are filled with players, a statement we can definitely agree with.

The highest score is a 9, the lowest are D and 2/5.
  • Joystiq – 2/5
  • IGN – 6/10
  • Eurogamer – 8/10
  • 1UP – D
  • Destructoid – 7.5/10
  • Gaming Today – 88%
  • JPS – 3/5
  • GamesRadar – 8/10
  • CVG – 8/10
  • ArsTechnica – Refused judgment
  • gamrReview – 8.2/10
  • The Guardian – 4/5
  • TSA – 9/10
  • Videogamer – 8/10
  • Game Informer – Refused judgment
  • VaDeJuegos (Spanish) – 8.5/10
  • GamersGlobal – 9/10
  • SpielTipps – 88 %
  • Giga – 87 %
  • Gamona – 87 %
  • MSN UK – 8/10
  • X360A – 8/10
  • 3djueogos – 81 %
  • We do have some remarks regarding the above scores. Several have decided to judge the game without testing the online component (which is the most important part here - it's like testing a MMO offline!). 1Up, who gave the lowest score, didn't apply the day-one patch, and VE3D even openly questions the amount of time certain journalists have spent actually playing the game.

Again game reviewers being hammered by time pressure? Or is the game truly nothing more than an average team-based co-op FPS with little more going for it? I suggest to wait a little longer to see some more reviews coming in, and of course our own opinion which will be based on the retail version after extensive testing ;)

Crap like this is why it has become very hard for anyone to give a rat's ass about game reviews.

I mean, Dragon Age 2 was heralded as the "second coming" when it was mediocre at best...

That being said, I eagerly await you guy's review of BRINK :-)
