Fragland Hi-End Gaming System
After wandering around the hardware market today, we come up with the following system if you've got around 1.500 euro's of cash in your pocket and ready to spend them on some pretty hi-end computer hardware
Case:
- Antec Performance One P160
Price: €139
Power Supply:
- Antec Truepower 480W
Price: €122
CPU:
- AMD Athlon64 3000+ Boxed (incl. Cooler)
Price: €238
Mobo:
- ASUS K8V K8T800 S754 DDR400 AGP8X Snd5.1 GLAN SATA RAID
Price: €102
Memory:
- 2x Kingston Valueram 512MB PC3200 DDR
Price: €212
Vidcard:
- ASUS AX800 PRO/TD Radeon X800 Pro 256DDR AGP8X TV-out DVI
Price: €475
Soundcard:
- Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
Price: €135
Harddisk:
- Maxtor DM+9 160GB 7200RPM ATA133 FDB 8MB
Price: €107
Optical Drive:
- ASUS DVD-E616 DVD 16X/48X IDE Black
Price: €32
Total price: €1.562,00
We're 62 euro above our pre-set budget of 1.500 euro but I just couldn't resist from putting in the X800 Pro. If you've got the money, you can get yourself a true monster. If you don't want to exceed on the 1.500 euro, take a smaller disk or lower the memory to 512MB (you can always upgrade later on)

Case:
- Antec Performance One P160
Price: €139
We're looking for a reasonably priced case with lots of features and a weight that doesn't hurt your back when taking it to a lan party and what is our conclusion ? The P160 fits all your needs and is in fact one of the best Midi Towers available at the moment

Power Supply:
- Antec Truepower 480W
Price: €122
Many people still don't realise the importance of a decent power supply but I can assure you that having a decent one can get rid of a lot of possible problems. Antec's Truepower series is of very high quality and 480Watt should be enough to cope with the rest of the hardware we're putting in this box
CPU:
- AMD Athlon64 3000+ Boxed (incl. Cooler)
Price: €238
The Athlon64 3000+ is decently priced and I prefer to spend some more money on graphics than on raw cpu power so therefore we don't choose a faster processor

Mobo:
- ASUS K8V K8T800 S754 DDR400 AGP8X Snd5.1 GLAN SATA RAID
Price: €102
Socket 939 boards are waiting around the corner but until they really become available we keep with socket 754 for AMD's Athlon64 and although not the best performer, the K8V has a decent set of features and incredible stability. The only main downpoint is the soundcard however as it's a Soundmax chip that absolutely sucks.

Memory:
- 2x Kingston Valueram 512MB PC3200 DDR
Price: €212
Kingston is known for high quality memory and now that their line of affordable memory is also available over here this is the way to go. Decent speed, good reliability and lifetime warranty. What can a man ask more ?

Vidcard:
- ASUS AX800 PRO/TD Radeon X800 Pro 256DDR AGP8X TV-out DVI
Price: €475
High price but it comes with high performance aswell. ATI's newest chips have arrived and for a hi-end system we are more than willing to spend this amount of money on one of the fastest graphics cards available. AND you even get a free webcam along in the package ;)

Soundcard:
- Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
Price: €135
Since the on-board sound of the K8V is so bad, we want to upgrade our sound and this Audigy 2 ZS is the best you can have for games. It comes at a price but wait until you hear the difference :)
Harddisk:
- Maxtor DM+9 160GB 7200RPM ATA133 FDB 8MB
Price: €107
I was hoping to get a raid system with 2 Western Digital Raptor's in, but the budget restrained me and so I go for the same disk as we used in our mid-range system. More capacity at a bit slower speed but the price difference is enormous

Optical Drive:
- ASUS DVD-E616 DVD 16X/48X IDE Black
Price: €32
A very cheap but still reliable and fast dvd reader from a company that's known for producing quality. You can't go wrong.
