Free Radical shutting down
Posted on Thursday, 18 December 2008 by daffeh, source: GameIndustry.biz
GameIndustry is bringing the news that Timesplitters developer Free Radical Design is having its own sad Christmas demise.
Reading trough their sources makes it look like quite the abrupt event with most of the staff already gone and some even finding closed doors in the morning together with an invitation to a final meeting.
Together with Free Radical Design the upcoming Timesplitters 4 and the unannounced LucasArts project, rumoured to be Star Wars Battlefront III, seem to have a very uncertain future. The latter seems to have the biggest chance of survival as some sources claim it has already been signed over to Rebellion, the developer behind the quite decent Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron for the PSP.
Quite sad, I even read on some fora that they had two separate meeting rooms, one for those who could stay and one for those who had to go. Nice, loosing your job, reality show style!
The gaming industry is heading for a sad Christmas with many publishers cutting down costs and axing jobs like there is no tomorrow.
