GAMESCom in Cologne announced

Posted on Monday, 25 February 2008 by Anneleen, source: Eurogamer Germany
Instead of in Leipzig, a games convention will take place in Cologne, starting 2009.

Since the downsizing of E3, the GC in Leipzig was the largest consumer show and now apparently has become too big for Leipzig.

The BIU (Bundesverband Interaktive Unterhaltungssoftware, an organisation that unites German developers and publishers) and the Köln Messe will coöperate to organise a new convention in Cologne, from 9 to 13 September, starting 2009. The event will be named 'GAMESCom'. The German TV station RTL is based in Cologne and will become one of the most important partners of the event. The advantages of Cologne are among others a better travel acces and infrastructure.

What will happen with the GC in Leipzig, is not clear. It either will go up in GAMESCom, or a, be it smaller, convention will still take place. It is waiting for the results of the negotiations that are still taking place.
