GTA creators to bail from Rockstar?
The Houser brothers are the creative minds behind the Grand Theft Auto series and with their contract ending in 2009 Take2 faces a big problem: just about any developer/publisher could be bidding to get them on board while Take2 on the other hand could decide to give them a bigger % of the profits made from the games they make.
"The brothers are the driving force behind the Grand Theft Auto series, and are intimately involved in game decisions. While neither writes game code, we believe that they are analogous to the director of a Hollywood film, instrumental in determining the final shape of the ultimate games released. We expect a bidding war for the Housers' services in February 2009, and remain convinced that Take-Two faces two equally unpalatable options: either lose the Housers to another bidder, or pay more to retain them,"
However, giving them more money isn't the easiest thing to do for Take2's board as they've just seen their stock plummit after EA bailed out from taking over the company.I guess Strauss Zelnick has some tough decisions to make in the near future and his own job may very well be on the line quite soon.
