Games for Windows Live now totally free
More than a year after Games for Windows Live was launched Microsoft finally understands that a paid subscription multiplayer service on PC isn't a good sales arguement. That's why MS has announced today at Gamefest that features like multiplayer achievements, ranked matchmaking, crossplatform with Xbox 360 and voice chat will now be completely free (for older and new games that support GfWL) whereas previously players needed to have a Gold account for it.
This news explains of course why Dawn of War II would offer the GfWL 'experience' for free as it was announced a week ago on E3; it was just an omen for more things to come.

In addition to making Games for Windows Live free, Microsoft will also be creating a brand new GFW marketplace this fall to rival the marketplace found on the Xbox 360. As with the Xbox Live Marketplace, GFW's will offer demos, videos, downloadable content, and more.
If this change would increase the popularity *cough* of the service on PC is yet to be seen just like how Xbox Live Gold subscribers will react to this...In other news:
