Gamespot = Corrupt?
Ok, the title may be a bit over the top, but one does have to wonder what's going on over there.
Joystiq is reporting that Gamespot and its parent CNet have fired a reviewer after the guy gave Kane & Lynch: Dead Men a score of 6/10 while Eidos was advertising quite heavily on Gamespot for that same game.
Apparently Eidos didn't like that and requested CNET to fire the reviewer, something that indeed happen.
Gamespot has also removed Jeff Gerstmann's video review of the game from their site which would suggest there's some truth to the story.
Gerstmann himself apparently isn't allowed to comment on the reasons for his departure:
Gamespot did comment on the matter with word that they "take editorial integrity extremely seriously" but no word on whether anything about the matter is true or not.
Joystiq is following up on the story and regularly updating their post with new info as it comes in.

word around game journalism's virtual water cooler is that Gamespot Editorial Director Jeff Gerstmann has been fired because publisher Eidos was unhappy about his negative review of Kane & Lynch: Dead Men

Jeff has confirmed his firing to us via e-mail, but says he's "not really able to comment on the specifics of my termination." He added that he's "looking forward to getting back out there and figuring out what's next." We're still digging

Don't take a review for more than it is and use it to find out about graphics, gameplay etc if it's described at all...I only use reviews when there's no demo available.

The only legitimate way this could have gone down however unlikely, is if his intent was just to bad mouth the game and give it low scores without the reasoning as to why he gave it a low score.
Although I know its common practice to have advertisements for video games on a video game review site, doesn't it seem a bit hypocritical?
