Gas Powered Games: PC needs big budgets to make it
In a new interview, Gas Powered Games' Chris Taylor stated that PC games do pay off, but they need to have console blockbuster budgets.
Still, I doubt we'll ever get rid of the "piracy is ruining PC sales" statement though...

"People go 'oh yeah, it's simply an investment of publisher dollars'. Age of Empires Online will probably be successful and show that it's about the investment being there. What have I been saying the last few years? If publishers would invest in PC games the way they currently do in console blockbuster titles, then PC game sales would go up straight away.
