Gay Magazine appeals to ban Postal 2

Posted on Friday, 24 January 2003 by DoubleD, source: Fragland
The guys over at BBCWorld are reporting about an editor of a Dutch Gay magazine who has taken legal steps asking the governement to ban the upcoming game Postal 2. Editor Henk Krol finds the game to be extremely anti-homosexual because it gives the gamer the possibility (sic) to shoot gay men who are just strolling the streets. Here is their (Dutch) website.

The people over at Running with Scissors, the developers of Postal & Postal 2, reacted with a statement saying that one could shoot the gay figures, but that there is no gain nor extra scores for the players who do shoot them. They stress that people can play their game in both an agressive way and a very peaceful and calm way :-)

While visiting the Postal 2 website, I came across the following which I just can't withhold :-)
We are Running With Scissors, notorious video game developers despised by Senator Lieberman, the United States Post Office and the Australian legislature (to name but three), for daring to produce the tasteless and insensitive videogame POSTAL.

Contrary to the "fear-enema" that some politicians and religious organizations would like to spray up the collective ass of the entire planet, we believe that the vast majority of people are, in fact, NOT inbred zombie murder-bots just waiting for some entertainment product to finish their "programming". We also do not believe that ANY creative industry should ever have to castrate itself under politically-motivated censorship guidelines designed around the imagined needs of six year-olds or clinically psychotic persons (unless that is their intended target audience, of course).

We believe that violence belongs in entertainment products -not in the streets.

But what do we know, we're just ignorant videogame developers.
Thanks God there are still heroes :-)

the funny thing is that if you weren't allowed to shoot gays, then it would be discriminating against straight people.

politically correct answer : a game should not show any difference between a gay and straight person. All persons should be equal and it should not be obvious if you're shooting at a gay person or not.

Normal answer : it's bullshit

Well... the gay figures will probably be easy to spot in the game:
- either they wear cool shiny black leather
or
- they'll look like ordinary men but with nicely manicured hands and a smart suit

:D
