Gearbox is doing/did Duke Begins
While digging through some more lawsuit material between Take 2 and 3D Realms, Shacknews found out that the development studio that was working on Duke Begins is none other than Gearbox!
- 3D Realms states Duke Nukem Forever is still under development despite the dev having laid off all of its staff
- Take2 states Duke Begins has been halted but hasn't been cancelled in any way
So conclusion: we've got two upcoming Duke games that probably will "forever" be in development. And that thanks to a lawsuit over one of the two being under development already seemingly "forever".
Under the 2007 Agreement, any modification to the development schedule for the Duke Begins game, following Final Concept Approval (as defined in the 2007 Agreement), is permitted without Apogee's consent provided that both 2K Games and Gearbox (as defined in the 2007 Agreement) consent to the change.
So what is going on at the moment? Well, it's not quite clear:- 3D Realms states Duke Nukem Forever is still under development despite the dev having laid off all of its staff
- Take2 states Duke Begins has been halted but hasn't been cancelled in any way
So conclusion: we've got two upcoming Duke games that probably will "forever" be in development. And that thanks to a lawsuit over one of the two being under development already seemingly "forever".
