Gears of War conquering Japan?

Maybe they are really falling for the charisma of Bill or it's April Fools Day in the land of the rising sun. However, according to Media Create, there's an Xbox 360 game in the top 10 of best sold games of the past week in Japan!

Gears of War is taking number 7 with 33,212 sold copies. As far as we know, it's the first Xbox 360 game to do this.

This is how the rest of the top 10 looks like:

1. .hack//G.U. Vol. 3 (PS2) - 136,790
2. Wario: The Seven (DS) - 91,249
3. Shining Force EXA (PS2) - 72,306
4. Wii Sports (WII) - 57,418
5. Wii Play (WII) - 45,724
6. Dragon Shadow Spell (PS2) - 40,541
7. Gears of War (360) - 33,212
8. Seikaiju Maze (DS) - 32,511
9. Common Knowledge Training (DS) - 31,735
10. More Brain Age (DS) - 29,626

Worldwide, Epic’s shooter is sold more than 3 million times. The game is just released in Japan, but the success clearly immediately follows.

Finally looks like the japs are getting some taste.

I cant believe that they have such an influence over the games industry being one of the biggest markets and all.
Look at what they buy, the top three is a hand held game and two PS2 games, i mean WTF.

@vexxed- they buy them because they're good games....just because the graphics are shinier on the newer consoles doesn't mean the games are better

GOW would never be classed as average by anyone with the slightest bit of knowledge about games and had actually played it dude.

i have played gears of war and it was good fun but was far from perfect, and elements of it felt pretty bog standard so i'd also say it's an average shooter.
