Gears of War not for Germans

VoodooExtreme got word from Microsoft that Gears of War will not be released in Germany due to the fact that the German lawmaker doesn't seem it fit for normal retail sale which would mean that there wouldn't be any advertising and if someone would want to buy it, they would have to go to the shop and ask for the game after which the retailer would have to give it in a brown bag

So basically, the situation is similar to the one experienced by Capcom when Dead Rising was due for release over here - the game was rejected a rating by the USK ratings board. This means that Microsoft wouldn't be able to advertise the game and that shops wouldn't be able to put the game on their shelves - if you wanted to buy Gears of War you'd have to ask the cashier for it and then be slipped a copy in a brown paper bag.

Microsoft could do some changes to the game to get it sold normally but that would give conflicts for people wanting to play it over Xbox Live so the publisher decided to cancel the game in Germany altogether.
