Gears of War not for PC after all

Microsoft goofed again! Gamerscoreblog is reporting that Microsoft will not be releasing Gears of War on PC anytime soon although previous reports weren't completely incorrect.

What happened was that pictures showing box shots of Gears of War having the "Games for Windows" logo were indeed taken, but the actual box shots were apparently incorrectly created and distributed

We created this image around the E3 timeframe when we were first preparing to announce and show our Games for Windows retail efforts. Shortly after the insanity that is E3, we noticed the box art, and the image was supposed to be removed from circulation. When we provided the package of art assets to PC Gamer for their cover story, we zipped up a directory of our already-public E3 assets as well as more current images (many of which PC Gamer did not use). Unfortunately, we didn't realize that this image was in that directory, and it just happens to be the one that PC Gamer figured prominently in their story. Our bad.

Oh well, a bit disappointing to be honest.

I don't really care, I'm going to get a 360 anyway. I think there are enough good games out already to justify buying the damn console.

Same here. I'll be picking up this little do hickey when it's out aswell to make my fps gaming on the 360 easier, I find the controller awkward for them.

I hope they will restrict the usage of that thing, as it would have a seriously unfair advantage in online play.

Thanks for the tip, I seriously also want one. I never really liked playing FPS games with a pad.

GOW is not a FPS for starters and it was not designed for PC and would not work so much better as you put it, hence it not being on PC and being on the X360.

Yes a keyboard and mouse enables you to look around a lot quicker but there is nothing wrong with a joypad for FPS games on consoles or 3RD Person Shooters like GOW as thats what it is, do you think Halo 2 would still be the most played game on Xboxlive if everyone hated using the joypad.

Also as everyone is using a joypad it makes it a level playing field and how hard is it really to get used to another control method if you are not used to it, just like most of you here who are obviously not used to a joypad and way too dependant on your keyboard and mouse.

Games that are written for consoles are designed around the joypad and therefore they work, if you cant get it to work then it aint the joypad that has the problem :P.

UE3 is designed for all next-generation consoles (PS3, Xbox360) and the PC in mind, and development is easier than before between each platform - so it would be really easy to port it to the PC. However, that's not going to happen, and I believe TPS games are much better played with a gamepad than mouse/keyboard anyway (vice versa for FPS/RTS obviously).

Halo2 is no longer the most played game on Live, Gears of War is :)

GoW is a 3rd person shooter indeed, but most of the time you are aiming, which is pretty much FPS, the only reason I call it FPS is because the shooting side of the game is done in pretty much first person...

Halo 2 may be the most played game on xbox but what has this got to do with anything. A Mouse is so much better than a joypad, just because they like playing with a joypad, doesn't mean that a mouse would not prove much better (basically, if the only hardware you can use is a joypad, you have two options, like it or lump it).

If everyone has a joypad it is a even playing field but if everyone had a keyboard and mouse, would everyone still have the same playing field, yes, your arguement is far from valid, I am not dependant on a mouse, I jsut prefer it, I can use either, but if I had choice of joypad on xbox or mouse on PC, its obvious which I would pick.

Games written for Xbox360 are very much designed with a PC and Xbox in mind, for example, check Call of duty2, this game on PC still comes with the xbox code built in, that is because the development side of an xbox is very similar to a PC, the only difference are buttons are changed to keys, and movement is changed from analog to mouse.

And just to summarise, I have no problem with the game on xbox, infact just finished it on hardcore this morning with my brother, and enjoyed every minute of it, but I would prefer and also love to see this game on PC...

shadow run is the first vista 360 online game and they are using a control system that if you use a key board /mouse your targeting reticule increases when you turn faster making it harder to shoot your target .
play testers on the game say that there is no advantage between the to controle types due to this ( we will see ) at least they know there is concern and they are trying somthing to even the playing field .

and gears was built from the ground up with the 360 in mind around the control pad and its a slow paced aiming not like counter strike where you need pin point aiming in a heart beat

personly key board and mouse gives me cramp i like joy pads the fact i can sit back in my big leather chair relaxed instead of being hunched over a desk .

i also love the fact that so many people are buying a 360 just for this game welcome to the dark side brothers .

If MS had released a nice wireless keyboard and mouse at 360 launch this wouldn’t be an issue now would it. Before anyone says it wouldn't have been fair on the people that who use joypad over keyboard that would be crap because we would all have the choice wouldn't we.

Unlike 360 the owners that ends up playing against PC owners in the future. The PC owners have the choice of joypad, joystick, mouse/keyboard and god knows what else like macro keyboards and such like. So this is the level playing field that Willy boy Gates was going on about.

So what happens next week when the FF racing wheel is released if you own one and you win against pad users are they going to make you give it up. The only reason that no KB and mouse support was given to the 360 was because MS were still trying to get away from the press statements that the original Xbox was just a PC in a box imo.

If we all have the same choices of what controllers we use how can it possibly considered unfair? Like Ducksmuggler said they are finding ways to stop the advantage from PC to 360 so why couldn’t they have done it in the first place for 360 owners that would have preferred the choice to use keyboard and mouse from the get go. Also imo a joypad in the hands of a seasoned joypad junkie is more than a match for most keyboard and mouse users.

Another point is why in this “next generation” are we in fact expected to go backwards, people used to use joysticks to play FPS years ago and when keyboard and mouse control was implemented did anyone go back I think not.

As for sitting back and relaxing I use my PC on a 46” 1080p LCD with wireless keyboard and mouse so why not my 360. Again it’s all about choices imo I prefer to have the choice it’s then up to me what I choose to do about it.

It is all about letting the die hard FPS crowd that believe the only way to play is on PC so M$ imo have found a way to entice these people that wont buy a 360 to at least upgrade to Vista with the lure of kicking there 360 owning buddies arses so they can at last say I told you so.

So much for there dream and promise of a level playing field lol. I suppose the point I am trying to make is the level playing field they talk about could have been implemented better with more choices for every 360 owner from day one instead of backtracking to promote VISTA and cross platform gaming.

M$ need to learn that if they don’t do it someone else will, and that like the device listed and linked above will be unfair.
