HP buys VoodooPC

Posted on Friday, 29 September 2006 by Speed, source: VoodooPC
It's a couple of months after Dell's acquisition of Alienware and now it seems one of the two other pc companies that are primarily targeted towards hardcore gamers has announced they'll be partnering up with Hewlett Packard. Yes, VoodooPC's Rahul Sood has announced in his blog that HP is the new owner of his (and his brother's) company

Voodoo will remain in Calgary and we shall continue to create premium luxury machines with more levels of personalization, and more features than we currently offer. Our strategy for the HP gaming portfolio is yet to be revealed – but expect the unexpected. I will continue to write for CPU Magazine and Custom PC Magazine, and I will likely invite more people to help contribute to the blog. The bottom line: On behalf of Ravi, Trevor, Paul, Desmond, Angela, and the rest of the Voodoo team we are happy to report that HP has acquired Voodoo - and together – not separately - we are going to rock your world

Well, let's hope for the best. This only leaves Falcon Northwest as major independent "ultimate" gaming rigs company

What do we care about these companies anyway, I can build a better rig myself with only half the cash!

I build my own systems too but there's way more who can't and those are the ones that will be affected by this so this piece of news is very valid indeed !

Wonder what's gonna happen with this part of the hardware world in question...

Uh, no it isn't, because buying your own computer is always cheaper than from companies like VoodooPC or Alienware simply because they slap on an extra $500 just because of the brand name.

Parallax: In the case of VoodooPC there are things that they offer additionally that not everyone who can assemble a PC can do themselves. Custom Paint jobs for one.

Custom fucking paintjobs, now there is a ultra-valid argument! It all depends what get your noodle going I guess ... I rather have a faster CPU than a fucking retarded flame on my case, but then again, that's me, maybe a fucking flame gets your noodle going...

I'm not saying I would ever buy an Alienware or VoodooPC (or Falcon Northwest for that matter) PC. Hell, I doubt I'll ever buy a brand PC (except for laptop) but one cannot argue that there isn't a market for hi-budget brand pc's. Otherwise there wouldn't be VoodooPC, Falcon Northwest, Alienware or the Dell XPS series.

And if major brands (like Dell or HP) buy up companies that are specifically targeted towards that market (like Alienware or VoodooPC), those buying those pc's probably will suffer.
